An Entry Built for Real Life

Laundry Room
Create a space that feels like a whimsical, elegant forest retreat, playful enough to charm a child, yet refined enough to suit adult tastes.
Located just off the garage, this mudroom and laundry room serves as the family’s everyday entry point. With two active daughters, a new rescue dog, and busy daily routines, the homeowners needed the space to function as an organized drop zone for shoes, coats, backpacks, and laundry. The room also needed to coordinate with the design of the newly remodeled adjacent kitchen.
The homeowners’ goals included creating a place to sit while putting on shoes, incorporating storage for everyday items, adding a hanging rod for drying clothes, and replacing the old laundry tub with a cabinet and deep sink that could be used for both laundry tasks and cleaning art supplies. Updating the lighting and replacing the exterior door were also priorities.

Pull visual cues from the clients' floral kitchen wallpaper, colorful home, and backyard garden.

Shelving above the bench and open cubbies along the side provide storage for hats and gloves, while additional coat hooks near the bench keep backpacks and jackets off the floor. The existing double row of coat hooks on the opposite wall was also preserved to maintain ample hanging storage.

Durable porcelain tile flooring was selected to handle the heavy traffic that comes with an entry space connected to the garage. A new cabinet with a deep stainless steel sink replaced the old laundry tub, creating a practical place for laundry tasks and cleaning paint brushes after the kids’ art projects.

To visually connect the room with the adjacent kitchen, the cabinetry and countertops were designed to match. A new exterior door painted a vibrant green adds a cheerful focal point while coordinating with the green backsplash tile in the kitchen.

With improved storage, better organization, and durable materials, the updated mudroom and laundry room now functions as a hardworking and welcoming entry space for the entire family.
