Sanibel Island Vacation
Home Rebuild
Sanibel, FL
As the hurricane winds blew through Florida in September 2022, there was no saving Sanibel Island.
Buildings on the island were inundated with three feet of surging water, leaving behind a landscape of destruction. Among them stood our client’s vacation home, stripped down to its studs, with all possessions lost in the storm. Now, 15 months later with a rebuilt and redesigned home, beach living is live and well again!
With careful redesign and reconstruction, we’ve breathed new life into this beachfront property. While the kitchen and bathrooms retained their original locations, we made strategic modifications to improve functionality and aesthetics. Walls were removed to create a more open layout, giving the entire home a sense of spaciousness and brightness.
Central to the kitchen’s redesign is a large island, measuring 87” x 80”, adorned with custom-built legs and a half-circle counter support. Equipped with ample storage, a wine rack, and seating for four, this focal point marries functionality with elegance, serving as the heart of the kitchen and living space within this home.
To counteract the effect of the low ceilings and shadowy interiors, a palette of light hues was embraced. Meadowland doors in a perfect beige finish, complemented by accents of Gregio Pine textured laminate, fill the space with lightness. Cambria countertops, coupled with a tile backsplash, evoke the timeless beauty of the nearby sandy shores.
In the Master bathroom, shiplap siding behind textured melamine cabinets evokes the rustic elegance of a seaside retreat, with a touch of coastal chic.
In the hall bath, the homeowner’s vision of an open cabinet concept finds expression, adorned with storage baskets and whimsical geometric tiles adorning the walls.
Similarly, the guest bedroom boasts double vanities of painted inset cabinets, accented by a bold navy blue striped horizontal wallpaper, giving the room a nautical tone.
The home now features light luxury plank vinyl flooring and bright painted walls, with a single navy blue accent wall in the living room that ties together the home’s decor. To add to the beachy vibes, beautiful rattan light fixtures accent the space.
The journey to rebuild this vacation home wasn’t without challenges. Supply shortages meant we had to make do with what was available, resulting in creative solutions for appliances, countertops, flooring, and plumbing fixtures.
However, the clients could not be more thrilled with the result that our design team came up with. Now this family has a wonderful space to make many new memories in the years to come.
