Kitchen before remodel

In the heart of a beloved family home stood a kitchen that had seen countless meals, homework sessions, and baking escapades. Originally built in 1985, the kitchen was a dark, dated space divided by walls that segmented it from the dining room and hallway. But this space was more than just a kitchen—it was the backdrop to a family’s everyday life, and the homeowners were eager to breathe new life into it.

Their vision was clear: they wanted to transform this beloved hub into a lighter, warmer space without losing its cozy feel. The solution? They decided to open up the kitchen by removing the walls separating it from the dining area and hallway. This bold move was aimed at creating a more expansive, unified space where family gatherings could flourish.

The renovation transformed a dark, segmented kitchen into a bright, open space with a soft green island and warm cherry-toned flooring, blending functionality with elegance and creating a welcoming hub for family gatherings and everyday enjoyment.

The transformation began with the removal of these walls, merging the kitchen, dining room, and hallway into one airy, open-plan area. This significant change allowed for the introduction of a striking, soft green island that became the focal point of the room. Its gentle hue was chosen to complement the new color scheme, which featured crisp white cabinetry, soothing mossy greens, and rich cherry-toned flooring. Together, these elements fostered a peaceful, comfortable atmosphere that felt both inviting and refreshed.

Despite the dramatic change, the kitchen maintained its functional essence. The original work triangle was thoughtfully expanded: the oven found a new central location, while the refrigerator was repositioned to the corner. This reconfiguration not only enhanced the flow of the space but also ensured that every inch was utilized efficiently. Ample storage was retained through the elegant Crystal Cabinet Works cabinetry, with smooth, painted finish contrasting beautifully with the glossy tiles and shimmering pendant lights.

However, the journey was not without its challenges. One major hurdle was balancing the warmth of the existing cherry-stained woodwork with the desire to lighten up the rest of the space. The solution came in the form of Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) flooring, which seamlessly integrated with the dark trim while providing a fresh, warm look. The placement of the refrigerator and the island also posed a challenge. The homeowners were reluctant to sacrifice interior space for a counter-depth refrigerator, but with the old fridge relocated to the basement, the design was perfected.
